Genesis Pierre stands in fornt of the sierra nevada job corps center sign holding an award

While attending SNJCC from 2016-2019, Genesis received her Certified Nursing Assistant certifications, then climbed the ladder to excel as an Advanced Career Training student at Truckee Meadow Community College. She went on to the University of Nevada, Reno, where she was awarded a B.S. degree in Nutrition in the summer of 2019.

Daniela Dupkala, Genesisu2019 mother, was on hand to present the award to her daughter. Daniella, originally from the Czech Republic, is now a staff member at SNJCC, where she helps feed 430 hungry students three times a day. u201cIu2019m so proud of the way everyone working here treats our students, and itu2019s absolutely fantastic that our company assists young people like Genesisu2026theyu2019re our future.u201d

Genesis spoke of her time at Job Corps. u201cI was very happy here at Sierra Nevada. I loved all the support I received from the instructors, the staff (especially the cafeteria staff), and my fellow students.u201d What would she say to new students coming into the program? u201cDonu2019t give up. I know friends who quit. Theyu2019re going nowhere. So, when you come here, keep on going. Try to get into ACT. Please, donu2019t give up u201d

To give back, Genesis is headed to Washington state for a 10-month stint at a voluntary civil society program called Americorps, working as a Nutrition Educator to teach low-income Americans gardening techniques, cooking, food budgeting, and overall nutrition goals. After Americorps, she intends to apply for a dietetic internship and then pass the state exam to become a Registered Dietitian, saying, u201cPromoting good health through proper nutritional habits is what motivates me.u201d Her long-term goal: to travel the world using her knowledge and skills in nutrition, as well as the communication skills she has developed through her CNA training, to make an impact in disadvantaged communities.

It goes without saying that Genesis is a credit to everyone at Sierra Nevada Job Corps and to the state of Nevada.
